Awesome Action
From L'Ecole du Pacifique School, of Sechelt, British Columbia:
Last year in our community four black bears were shot. We learned from the conservation officer that every year in British Columbia 1000 black and grizzly bears are shot because they are considered problem bears. So we created a skit about keeping our school yard garbage free because problem bears are created when humans don’t take care of their garbage. The girls are pictured with panels from the skit which illustrate 1000 bears. They also have banners showing that bears need to eat the equivalent of 40 hamburgers and 40 ice cream sundaes a day to meet their calorie needs.
The pamphlets in their hands are on how to bear-proof your yard. The pamphlets were designed by the kids in the 6-7 class last year. Finally, Claudia is recycling her juice boxes because in our school we use the money generated from recycling to adopt animals. This year we continued to support our orca, Surf, and have adopted a grizzly through the Western Canada Wilderness Committee.
The name of our school is L'Ecole du Pacifique. There are 75 children our school. This project involved the kids in Grades 4-7.
