Education Principles

We follow these principles in the development, delivery and evaluation of our environmental education programs:

Science Based: Our education is based on science, such as conservation biology, and is grounded in fact.

Learner-centered: We acknowledge, respect and accommodate individual differences in background, interests, abilities and experiences. Activities are experiential in nature.

Critical-thinking: Our education programs promote education, not advocacy. Participants are taught how to think, rather than what to think.

Bias-Balanced: Our education programs are bias-balanced. Although the CPAWS perspective is clearly expressed, other points of view are discussed and respectfully considered.

Curriculum-linked: Student programs are closely linked to Alberta curriculum particularly in the subjects of science and social studies.

Empowering: Educational programs lead participants through the process of awareness and understanding, and offer them the opportunity to take action. All action projects are learner-centered and include only positive actions such as personal lifestyle changes or democratic, citizenship-building processes such as letter writing.
